This strategy usually involves:
  • Forming a best guess using evidence - context clues, picture clues, etc.
  • Making predictions
  • Drawing conclusions
  • Finding meaning of unknown words

Language we use when inferring:
  • Reading between the lines, I think ...
  • I would expect that ...
  • I already know that ... so I think ...
  • In my experience...
  • I think the author is really saying …
  • The author’s clues were …
  • I think what’s really going on is…
  • I wonder why…
  • I wonder if…
